Fabric finder & swatchboard |
In order to use this site you will need to register, this
is a simple process and is completely free of charge. Once you have signed up, the
Design Studio has a range of useful services to offer. Our favourite is the Swatchboard
section which is an interactive 'fabric and wallpaper finder'. Go straight to the 'SEARCH'
link which enables you to view the designs and then select the criteria for your fabric,
border of wallpaper search. You may choose the product type (e.g. wallpaper), the
designer (e.g. Mulberry or Sanderson), the colour and/or the style (e.g. damask, chintz,
etc).
If you are looking for the cheaper solutions on the market this is probably not the
tool for you, but it is well worth checking out just to get a better idea of the style of
fabric you are looking for. |

Window dressings designs |
This is an inspiring and insightful online magazine
providing a wide range of interesting feature articles and other resources. The bonus is
that House Beautiful also offers a number of handy interactive tools, including Interactive Windows.
The interactive windows tool allows you to both 'mix and match' window treatments
such as curtains, blinds, shades, valances and swags, or to select standalone treatments
to view separately. Unfortunately, the last time we checked the tool did not currently
allow us to change the colours of fabrics displayed. That said, its still well worth
trying out if you are planning a fresh look for your windows. |

Room
planning |
BHG's
arrange a room functionality enables you to specify the precise
measurements of your room and position objects such as windows,
doors and radiators on the plan. You can add and rotate/position
furniture, lamps and some furnishings for effect, although you
cannot choose the colour or style of these items. This tool is
particularly useful if you are planning a renovation or decorating
project and want to print out a plan of the room to scale. You
must have Shockwave installed to use this feature. |

Room
styles |
This
site enables you to design bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms,
dining rooms, foyers and bedrooms using a number of sample room
styles, changing the colour and style of flooring (hardwood,
laminate and tiles), walls and cabinets. While the range of
colours and room styles are fairly limited the visual affect of
changing the combinations is very effective. |
