Hi there, I'm making a tailored covering for a sofa but want to remove the original cover rather than going over it as it has seen better days. I was expecting to find a base cover but this isn't the case, the orginal cover is straight on to the foam. So my question is - is it best to use calico for a base cover and what weight of calico. I have looked at some of my suppliers catalogues and there is a calico called loomstate - does anyone know if that refers to a weight of calico. Calicos I've used in the past on covering stuffing for dining chairs are quite thin and I'm not sure this will be substantial enough for the base layer on a three piece suite. Any help greatly appreciated.
