Hi Mandy I personally do not like blackout lining. The fabric is very dense, which obviously then results in the blackout, and I think that it does not compliment fabric such as silk. If you hold a piece of silk or any other fine luxurious fabric up to the light with normal lining, and do the same with a piece of blackout lining, you will see that the effect of the main fabric has changed dramatically. Whenever I am asked to use blackout lining I always point this out to customers. Many of them then change their minds about using blackout lining. I believe that for the silk curtains you can use a heavy interlining combined with good quality sateen lining. You will not get the total blackout look, but they will be luxurious and keep out most of the light. The silk curtains can then look their best. Good luck
